The Mission Bay Child Development Center occupies a ground floor space set within a new building of 100 affordable family housing units. The center serves up to 40 preschool children in two classrooms. Most walls within the center are open or glazed above 40” to increase visibility, while casework and interior wood windows provide warmth to the space. Likewise a wood wainscot provides a durable finish and a place for artwork at children’s eye level. The outdoor play area provides sand and water play, a small garden, and flexible space to promote development of gross motor activities and dramatic play. In addition to the preschool, there are two family childcare units in the building which open directly onto the podium play area.
